Maurizio Guadagnini obtained his degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1997. He was appointed as assistant co-ordinator of the European funded TMR ConFibreCrete Network (Development of Guidelines for the Design of Concrete Structures, Reinforced, Prestressed or Strengthened with Advanced Composites) in 1998 at the University of Sheffield where he was awarded his PhD on Shear Behaviour and Design of FRP RC Beams in 2002.
After his PhD, he was involved in the EU funded Co-operative research project (CRAFT) CURVEDNFR, whose aim was the development of curved non-ferrous reinforcement for reinforced concrete applications. In August 2005 he was appointed as a Lecturer in Advanced Composites in Construction.

He has extensive research experience in the experimental investigation and use of advanced composites as reinforcing materials and in the development of design recommendations. He has published over 90 publications and for the past 12 years he has contributed to the activities of Task Group 9.3 of the International Federation of Concrete (fib), of which he is secretary since 2009. He has been actively involved in several national and international network groups and collaborative projects, including two large European funded research training networks (ConFibreCrete and En-core).
